Typhoon drenches Philippines

News outlets report that Typhoon Fengshen swept through central and southern Philippines June 21 to 22. The storm triggered flooding, landslides and power outages, which sent thousands of people from their homes.

A notice on the CFCA homepage states that the Western Visayas region and the central island province of Iloilo were worst hit. The southern island of Mindanao also suffered flooding caused by a separate monsoon.

We are still awaiting reports from project coordinators in the Manila, Antipolo, Legazpi and Zamboanga projects about the impact of the typhoon to families in those areas. CFCA serves 46,714 sponsored members in the Philippines, including more than 4,000 children, youth and aging in Zamboanga.

We’ll update as we get more information.
